Anirud’s school fiesta when he was in LKG was a fete to cherish forever. It was held on 29th Nov 2012. Incidentally Vidya’s father and mother, My Dad was also there during that time. So all in all, it was a celebration to be remembered as it was the cute little kids that performed in front of a huge audience, without trepidation or hesitation.

The preparations went on for at least 2 months before the D Day. It was as if it was never ending. After coming from School, his mother would ask him what he did, what he practiced and ask him to perform and show it to her. As there were many different sessions, the teachers after seeing the performance of the kids, had decided that so and so would fit in this particular enactment.

Anirud was chosen to perform in the “Lakdi ki kaati” song. Vidya would play that song from You tube and ask him to perform time and again at home. She wanted him to practice and ensure that he would do best in the school concert. After some time, it felt like a never ending process as the days and weeks passed on. Some of the classes were skipped to complete the rehearsals. And at times the Kid would return quite tired from school. The school took some money for the dance dress.

The D Day arrived and Vidya as usual took meticulous care to dress him up. It was a Yellow Kurta and a Black Pyjama. Quite bright and flashy. He left for school as usual at 6.30 AM in his school bus. Thereafter, we left by 7.30 AM and reached the school by 8.15 AM. It was a Thursday. We took our seats in the second row. The program started at around 9.30 AM. After the initial round of introductory speech by the Principal, Special Guest and others the show began. One of the kids so cutely mentioned that this is a spectacle done by the kids for their parents and others. So please enjoy the show and forgive them, if they did some mistakes, as they were small kids. Awww…so sweet…

After the first dance was over, it was Anirud’s turn at around 9.45 AM. He was in the front line. He started off quite well but midway I guess he either saw me or his mom and tears kind of welled up in his eyes and it became moist. He lost a bit of his poise but still managed to finish his dance. During those times, he was quite sensitive and very much attached to us. If and when we used to go to his school and leave him behind he would start crying.

However, we were truly impressed with the performance of all the kids as it was a fabulous show. So well organized and we would understand the pain and effort that the teachers and other staff had put in to make this happen. It’s like discovering a truly latent hidden talent that lies within your kid. What is this kid capable of. You have never imagined or seen or done anything like this as a child in your own lifetime. So to see your kid display something that you never believed in, was at once surprising, also refreshing and enjoyable, all at once.

We were quite happy with the School as they did something other than studies as well. To make every single kid in LKG, across sections, participate in such an activity watched by so many parents and others. It was indeed a magnificent event. One forever etched in memory.
