Balavihar fancy dress competition
Balavihar is a voluntary social service work done by individuals associated with Swami Chinmayananda Ashram. It is meant to inculcate good Hindu values in young children by teaching them Sanskrit slokas. This would help them understand the meaning of slokas and also about Hindu scriptures, puranas and ithihas. It is normally held on a Friday (Holiday in Kuwait) for about an hour. Children are grouped according to age/class which they study so that they fall in a particular set, which has prescribed syllabus for the year.
Sometimes, to enhance the interest of the children, some kind of activities are held, like the fancy dress competition. In this case, parents are supposed to dress their kids according to Hindu mythological God or Goddesses. Not only that, they also have to recite a few sentences which are relevant to the personality they adorn.
Vidya and Anirud were supposed to bid goodbye to Kuwait forever and travel back (along with me) on the 28th of May. There were a whole lot of things that had to be accomplished before we wound up our show. In between this competition was scheduled on 23rd May 2014. Vidya is one helluva Mom who wants her kid to shine through on every stage of his life and would do anything and everything to achieve this. While we both were busy in packing and winding up so many things, she was not prepared for this. But before the D Day, all of a sudden she suddenly pulled her strings with a couple of friends in the same building and organized for the attire, make-up and other accessories to be set up in a jiffy.
And there you go, Little Krishna was all decked up, handsome and lovely. Also, she prepared a few sentences for him to speak in front of the audience. While it was quite hectic juggling everything at the same time, it was also wonderful to see the kids all decked up so beautifully. Frankly, nothing in this world can beat the charm of innocent, lovely, charming kids and they make all the anguish wade away in the gushing waters or simply vanish in thin air.
It was a supernal show with all the kids in various different costumes and avatars. His best friend was festooned up beautifully as Lakshmi. There were other kids as Radha, Lord Muruga, Rama & Lakshmana, Kali and others. Simply, a big hand to all the great mom’s out there who have all the patience, energy, drive and passion to do what they do for their kids. They are simply outstanding and one of course cannot leave behind the altruistic teachers who do this in a selfless manner for the beneficence of the kids which would only improve their moral values and leave them as better individuals for a holistic future society.
