25th April it was. Dad wanted to perform Homam at home for the goodness and wellbeing of the next generations. So towards this, Cheena came down from Goa and Sridhar also took some time off from his busy schedule. Everyone assembled at our home in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. My Father in law was the chief proponent who manged the show as he usually does majestically in his own inimitable style. Six other Vathiyar's had come for the Homam as Dad had asked my FIL to do various types of Homam's for the benefit of all family members. It started at around 8 AM and everyone came on or before that. It went on well with a short break for breakfast since many had their own health issues and had to have something before continuing with the Homam. Several Homam's were performed starting with...Ganapathy Homam, Sudarshana Homam, Mrityunjaya Homam, Dhanvanthiri Homam and finally Navagraha Homam. It went on until around noon time and some close friends also dropped by to take the blessings of elders and Swamin's.
Post that, the Swamni's had the first right to have the food. Then, we all sat together to have our food. Then, once everything was done, it was time for some chit chat and catch up of old times...with fun and laughter. It was always good to see your brethren and relive the glorious days of the past. Unlike us the kids of this generation are not in regular touch with one another since we live quite farther from one another. So it's only during these kind of occassions, do we get to make up for the lost times and remember what each one means to another. Also, it's time the next generation bonded together so that they feel that they have company. Unlike us, there are no siblings as every one of us is a parent of a single child. So unless they bond together like us, they would have none to hold on to as brothers or sisters in the farther future.
In the evening, we decided that we will go to Jalpaan for Dinner. Everyone came with the exception of Dad as he was tired and not interested to step out for dinner. So off we went there and we had to wait for about 15 minutes despite telling them in advance that we are coming there with elders and children. It was a weekend and it's usually a crowded place. Everyone liked the food and by the time we came back home, we were all sloshed and ready to play drop dead.
